The designations Member of the Concrete Society (MCS) and Fellow of the Concrete Society (FCS) are marks of distinction that recognise an individual’s professional development, expertise, and meaningful contributions to both the Concrete Society and the wider concrete industry.
Society members are encouraged to apply for these prestigious grades, which provide formal recognition of their knowledge and commitment to advancing the field of concrete. Successful applicants receive an official certificate and are entitled to use the post-nominal letters MCS or FCS, signifying their professional standing.
Requirements
Member of the Concrete Society (MCS)
- Must be a current member of the Society in one of the Society’s membership categories.
- Have a professional development record to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise relating to concrete in its manufacture, design and sustainable use and reuse.
Fellow of the Concrete Society (FCS)
- Must be a current member of the Society in one of the Society’s membership categories.
- Have considerable proven experience and have made significant contribution to the overarching purpose of the Society, the provision and sharing of knowledge and the advancement of concrete.
- Made a significant contribution to the Concrete Society and its initiatives that have benefitted the membership and the sector.
- Made a significant contribution to the advancement of concrete, through practice, research or education.
Applications
Applications for Member or Fellow grade must be submitted using the appropriate application form(s), accompanied by evidence of your qualifications and/or a summary of your professional experience. A fee is payable at the point of application. Applications will be allocated to and reviewed by an independent assessor within 60 days.
If the assessor requires any additional information to support the application, the applicant has 60 days to provide that information before the application process is closed.
These grades are available exclusively to current members of the Concrete Society, and applications are welcome at any time throughout the year.

A one-time fee of £60 + VAT applies for the Member (MCS) grade and £100 + VAT for the Fellow (FCS) grade. This fee must be submitted with your application and is partially refundable (£35) if the application is unsuccessful.
Please note: MCS and FCS designatory letters may only be used by current, fully paid-up members of the Concrete Society. If membership lapses for more than six months, the application process must be repeated to regain MCS/FCS status.
