Name: Simon Copeland
Job Title: Group Compliance Director
Organisation: Getjar Ltd
Date joined London and South East committee: 2022
Why did you become a member of the Concrete Society and why would you recommend it?
Getjar Ltd have been members of the Society for many years. The Society offers excellent advisory services that we have called upon as well as providing a good range of technical information.
Why did you first decide to volunteer for the (Region) committee?
I was invited to join the committee and jumped at the opportunity.
Could you describe some of the tasks you have typically done whilst on the committee?
I became Secretary of the committee in September 2023 so arranging the committee meetings along with the usual administrative duties has been my main role. I have also been heavily involved in organising our annual Spring Lunches from 2023 onwards.
What have you most enjoyed about being part of the (Region) committee?
Ensuring the Spring Lunches have been successful
How has volunteering helped you in building your professional network?
I haven’t knowingly or deliberately tried to build my network by volunteering, but it has probably enhanced people’s view of me, hence being elected Secretary and now Chair.
What advice would you give to anyone considering joining a Society Regional committee?
Get involved and be an active member of the committee
Why did you decide to go for the (Regional) Chair position and what are your aims for your two-year term?
Natural progression having been Secretary.
For the Region to continue to hold our well-attended Social Events and be profitable. For the Region to undertake more Technical Events.
