Standards for highways – document changes

The essential documents on the design, construction and maintenance of highways are as follows:

  • Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB)
  • Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)
  • Interim Advice Notes (IANs)
  • Routine and Winter Service Code (RWSC)
  • Network Maintenance Manual (NMM)
  • Technology Management and Maintenance Manual (TMMM)

The Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) consists of six volumes including the administrative procedures for its use, the Specification for Highway Works and its corresponding Method of Measurement.

The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) contains information about current standards relating to the design, assessment and operation of motorway and all-purpose trunk roads in the United Kingdom.

CHANGES

Many of their familiar BA and BD guidance notes, which should be read in conjunction with all documents, are in
the process of being re-issued under a revised classification system. To navigate from the familiar code to the new document see Standards for Highways website.
