This session offers an overview of the evolving landscape of lower-carbon concrete and its role in sustainable construction, specifically focusing on new research innovations utilising mechano-chemically activated supplementary cementitious materials and recycled fine aggregates.

The session will present key findings from an industry-driven research collaboration between Knights Brown, Cardiff University, and other industrial partners, centring on the valorisation of low-grade, mineral waste streams for simultaneous replacement of both cement and fine aggregate.

The session will trace how this work has progressed from laboratory investigation to a first-of-its-kind, full-scale site trial at Knights Brown’s Cardiff Coastal Defence Scheme.
