Meet our Team
The Society is run by its members for its members with the support of a central team based in Sandhurst, Berkshire.
Senior management team
Claire was appointed Chief Executive of the Concrete Society in 2024. Prior to joining the Society, Claire was Executive Director responsible for Concrete at the Mineral Products Association which included leading product groups and industry bodies including The Concrete Centre.
As interim Technical Director, Claire is convenor of The Society’s technical committee and oversees the Evolving Concrete technical conference and a programme of new and updated technical guidance. The technical advisory service and our training programme is provided by the in-house technical team and industry experts.
Claire is also part of the Green Construction Board’s Low Carbon Concrete Group and the British Standards Institution’s Committee for Concrete, B/517 and B/517/1.
Claire Ackerman
Chief Executive Officer
Michael was appointed Business Director in March 2022 after working for the Society since July 2000. Before joining the Society, Michael spent 12 years with The Steel Construction Institute and The Financial Times.
Michael is responsible for all member and non-member commercial services, including the magazine, bookshop, and news & information services. He is also the primary project manager for the prestigious Concrete Society Awards. He also contributes to the operational excellence of the Society, including responsibility for property and health & safety, systems and IT.

Lee was appointed Director, Membership & Regions in late 2024. Prior to joining the Society, Lee spent the previous 12 years working in the membership sector at the Business Continuity Institute and Institute of Customer Service overseeing membership, marketing, events and business development.
Lee is responsible for all Society membership activities ensuring that processes and products/service are fit for purpose and providing value to both individual and corporate members. Lee is also responsible for the Society’s Regional network supporting volunteers with engaging their local communities through a variety of events and initiatives.
Lee Sadler

Steve was appointed as Technical Director in December 2025. Steve started his career in the precast concrete sector; before moving into the ready-mixed concrete sector in roles including Quality Manager and Technical Manager.
Steve and the technical team at the Society provide advice, training and guidance to members as well as project managing and contributing to published guidance, regional committees and the national awards programme.
