The 59th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Concrete Society was held in-person and online on 2 July 2025.
The AGM is required as part of the constitution of the Concrete Society and has an important role in the governance and management of the Society.
The President, Honorary Treasurer and CEO all provide a report to the AGM. This provides an annual report to members and also ensures that the annual accounts for the Society are formally accepted allowing them to be filed by the CEO. Read the CEO report, as published in Concrete magazine, May.
In his final report as President, Mike Amodeo said “It has been an honour to be President during one of the most exciting transitional phases in the history of the Concrete Society… It is clear for all to see that Society is well on the way to being fit for the future and to remain relevant and worthy of the respect it has earned over many years.”

The AGM also declares elected the senior officers for the following Council session of 2025/6.

As an independent membership organisation we are governed by our elected Council, including senior officers, regional representatives and general membership representatives. The AGM also agreed incoming Council members: Owen Brooker, Structronix and co-chair of the Society’s technical committee and Charlie Dale, PICS, past-president of the Yorkshire region.

The President also announced the names of Honorary members elected by Council and awarded his Honorary membership certificate to Peter Hewlett. Deiniol Williams was also a recipient of Honorary membership, but was unable to attend the meeting in person.
The final order of the day was to vote on amendments to the constitution, and it was agreed the President’s term would now stand at two years, and that all pronouns in the Articles would be changed from he/him to they/them. Finally the Byelaws 2025 were adopted. The Byelaws provide supporting information and processes to support compliance with the Articles of Association.
The AGM was announced as closed with all business transacted as per the agenda.
The AGM is open to all members, so keep an eye out for the calling notice in May 2026 when registration to attend will open.

Following the AGM the Immediate Past-President, Mike Amodeo presented the chains of office to President, Steve Thorpe. Steve Thorpe, President then hosted the first Council meeting of the 2025/6 session, and the wheels continue in motion for the robust governance of the Concrete Society.
